 2012 Report Now Available!
Up to 30% of people with psoriasis also develop psoriatic arthritis (PsA). PsA is a form of arthritis specifically associated with psoriasis of the skin, which causes pain, stiffness and swelling in and around the joints. Genetic predisposition, the immune system and environmental factors are all believed to play a role in the onset of PsA. Without treatment, this chronic, debilitating disease can be life-altering.
With biologics, such as Enbrel® (Amgen/Pfizer) and Humira (AbbVie), the Psoriatic Arthritis market has experienced strong growth over the past few years. In addition, the cost of these therapies has driven the market to the $1 billion+ level. Psoriatic Arthritis Market Info™ from Drug Market Info captures explicit data on this disorder, which is often difficult to extract because PsA data tends to be “lumped” or buried within data for rheumatoid arthritis or psoriasis. Psoriatic Arthritis Market Info™ is unique in that it focuses only on this condition.
A key issue for psoriatic arthritis management is correct diagnosis so that disease-modifying therapy can begin as quickly as possible. Yet it can take years for the condition to be accurately diagnosed. Learn why in Psoriatic Arthritis Market Info™ which also provides Patient Perspectives and how patients deal with this disease. Actual patient verbatims are included in all Drug Market Info reports. The report covers how PsA starts, how it is diagnosed, and how it is managed, especially when concurrent with skin disease.
Other benefits of Psoriatic Arthritis Info™ you won’t find in other reports include…
- A presentation-ready format:
The report is presented entirely on PowerPoint slides to make reading and data assimulation easier, quicker and ready to cut and paste into your own reports/presentations

My first sign of psoriatic arthritis was soreness in my joints. It progressed to the point that every step was an effort – that’s the way it felt. You have to get treatment because you have to be able to get up and go. To get PsA under control you have to take more risks.

Up to 30% of people with psoriasis also develop psoriatic arthritis, which causes pain, stiffness and swelling in and around the joints. While it is possible to have psoriatic arthritis without psoriasis, skin disease precedes joint disease in about 85% of patients. Psoriatic arthritis can develop at any time, but most commonly appears between the ages of 30 and 50 and affects men at a higher rate than women. Learn more about psoriatic arthritis, how it is diagnosed, the number of U.S. patients with PsA and how it affects their lives.

There is no specific test for psoriatic arthritis and the diagnosis is based on symptoms, examination, X-rays and eliminating other types of arthritis. There are 5 different forms of psoriatic arthritis which involve different joints and/or the spinal column. Treatment utilizes drugs in 3 main categories, including NSAIDs, DMARDs (disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs) and biologics. PsA can be debilitating, both physically and psychologically, and can greatly affect patients’ emotional well-being. Both dermatologists and rheumatologists are involved in the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Learn more about the different treatments, goals of therapy and how patients feel about the therapies. |

The psoriatic arthritis market has experienced strong demand and is expected to continue to grow in future years due to the increased use of biologics and their associated costs. The market emerged with the launch of Amgen/Pfizer’s Enbrel® (etanercept) in 2002 as the first biologic therapy approved for psoriatic arthritis in both the United States and Canada. Since that time, more biologics have entered the market, including Abbott’s Humira® (adalimumab), another TNF (tumor necrosis factor) blocker, which was approved for psoriatic arthritis in 2005 and most recently, Centocor’s Simponi® (golimumab). Some companies have sought the psoriatic arthritis indication first since patients with psoriatic arthritis also suffer from psoriasis. Learn more about the biologics, new therapies and prescription volume from different treatments for psoriatic arthritis.
